 Ferrari heeft in niet misverstaande woorden duidelijk gemaakt dat zij uit de Formule 1 stappen wanneer de standaardmotor realiteit wordt. De FIA wil een standaardmotor vanaf 2010 invoeren om op die manier de kosten van de teams te drukken. De plannen waren bij veel teams al verkeerd gevallen en nu laat ook Ferrari duidelijk merken fel tegenstander te zijn van het plan. In een verklaring laat het Italiaanse team weten niet te geloven in de plannen van een standaardmotor. "De raad van bestuur van Ferrari overweegt serieus uit de Formule 1 te stappen wanneer de standaardmotor zijn intrede doet. Het stopzetten van het ontwikkelen van een motor hoort bij de sport waaraan Ferrari al sinds 1950 is verbonden." Het standpunt van Ferrari kwam enige tijd nadat ook Toyota nogmaals duidelijk maakte bij de invoering van deze plannen de hoogste autosportklasse te zullen verlaten. Volgens Toyota-baas John Howett zullen meerdere teams dit voorbeeld moeten volgen. "Ik denk dat je veel teams ziet vertrekken als je een standaardmotor invoert. Ik denk niet dat teams willen rijden met eenzelfde motor. We zullen een definitieve uitspraak van het World Motor Sports Council afwachten of ze het plan zullen doorzetten", aldus Howett. |
