 Op het circuit van Interlagos was het licht bewolkt bij de start van de tweede vrije training. Op het moment dat Jarno Trulli eerste stond in de tijdentabel, begonnen er een aantal druppels te vallen. Dat bleek geen probleem te zijn voor de coureurs, die gewoon verder reden. Lewis Hamilton en Sebastien Bourdais blokkeerden hun remmen een aantal keren terwijl Felipe Massa zijn uiterste best deed om wederom de snelste tijd neer te zetten. Na een derde van de vrije training lukte het hem om op de zachte band onder de tijd van de Italiaanse Trulli te gaan. Halverwege de sessie werd de regen iets heviger, waardoor het gladder werd op de baan. Onder andere Mark Webber en Trulli spinden door het gebrek aan grip. Renault leek ook een probleem te hebben, Nelsinho Piquet en Fernando Alonso waren respectievelijk twintigste en achttiende met nog maar tien minuten te gaan. Op de één of andere manier slaagde het tweetal erin hun tijden enorm te verbeteren, Alonso werd namelijk eerste en zijn teamgenoot Piquet zevende. De Spanjaard verstootte Massa naar de tweede plaats en Trulli naar de derde plaats op de tijdentabel.
