 Renault zal komend jaar met Fernando Alonso en Nelson Piquet aan de start verschijnen. Het nieuws van Alonso zal waarschijnlijk voor velen geen verrassing zijn, maar de benoeming van Piquet zal wellicht menig fan doen verrassen. De line-up werd vandaag door Renault bekend gemaakt. "We hebben de perfecte balans van jong en ervaring in hous. Fernando heeft zich voor de volgende twee jaar aan ons verbonden. We zijn als team erg blij met zijn aanwezigheid", aldus teambaas Briatore. Alonso zegt zelf over deze bekendmaking: "Ik heb besloten bij Renault te blijven, omdat ze, zoals ik vaker aangaf, mijn eerste keus zijn. Ik voel mij goed en comfortabel bij het team. Het is een hechte gemeenschap en ik ben erg blij hiermee." De toekomst van Piquet was lange tijd onzeker, maar tijdens het laatste deel van het seizoen werden de prestaties al beter bij de Braziliaan. "Ik ben erg blij dat ik deze kans van het Renault-team heb gekregen voor het tweede jaar. Ondanks dat ik een zwaar jaar had, heb ik veel geleerd in mijn debuutseizoen en ik wil dat gebruiken komend seizoen. Ik kan niet wachten op het begin van het nieuwe seizoen", aldus Piquet. |
