Een verrassing kan het eigenlijk niet meer genoemd worden, maar vandaag werd bekend dat Force India met ingang van 2009 een samenwerking aangaat met het team van McLaren-Mercedes. Deze meerjarige overeenkomst zal de VJM02-bolide voorzien van een Mercedes-motor, een geleverd KERS-systeem en zal meerdere onderdelen van McLaren mogen gebruiken zoals een versnellingsbak. "We zijn erg opgelucht dat we nu bekend kunnen maken dat we in zee gaan met McLaren Applied Technologies en Mercedes-Benz HighPerformanceEngines. McLaren en Mercedes zijn twee van de meest bekende namen in de geschiedenis van de autosport. Ze hebben in al die jaren veel bereikt en recent wonnen ze nog het wereldkampioenschap", aldus teameigenaar Vijay Mallya. "Force India heeft in haar één-jarige bestaan een leerzame periode doorgemaakt. Maar we willen nu meer bereiken. Deze bekendmaking onderstreept onze bedoelingen. Ik wil Bernie Ecclestone en FIA-voorzitter Max Mosley persoonlijk bedanken voor hun steun en hulp in aanloop naar deze samenwerking." |
