 Honda heeft de eerste foto vrijgegeven van de nieuwe hybrideauto Insight. Het betreft hier de Amerikaanse versie, maar de Europese variant zal hiervan niet veel afwijken. De Insight Hybrid beleeft in januari 2009 zijn wereldpremière op de North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Enkele maanden geleden presenteerde Honda tijdens de Autosalon van Parijs de Insight Concept. En zoals zovaak ziet het productiemodel er minder spectaculair uit dan het studiemodel. De auto op de foto betreft de variant voor de Amerikaanse markt, echter zal Europese versie hiervan niet veel afwijken. De Toyota Prius - die ook wordt vernieuwd en zijn debuut beleeft in Detroit - wordt wederom als voornaamste concurrent gezien. Hoewel omgekeerd de Prius nooit echt concurrentie heeft gehad van de eerste generatie Insight. Die is hier nooit een verkoophit geweest. Aangezien er toentertijd in Europa alleen deze twee hybrideauto’s verkrijgbaar waren, heeft de Prius eigenlijk altijd een monopoliepositie gehad. Vijf deuren voor vijf inzittenden Ten opzichte van z’n voorganger - een tweedeurs coupé - beschikt de nieuwe Insight over vijf deuren en biedt het plaats aan vijf inzittenden. Een compactere, lichtere en goedkoper te produceren versie van Honda’s IMA-systeem (Integrated Motor Assist) zorgt voor de aandrijving. Meer detials zijn ervan nog niet bekend. Bijzonder kenmerk van de Insight is de Eco-Trainer, een interactieve technologie die de brandstofefficiëntie verhoogt. Het systeem geeft namelijk tijdens en na het rijden feedback aan de bestuurder over zijn of haar rijtechnieken. Op die manier stelt de Eco-Trainer de Insight-bestuurder in staat om onder dagelijkse rijomstandigheden brandstof te besparen en de uitstoot van CO2 te beperken. Voorjaar 2009 Vlak na z’n officiële onthulling tijdens de NAIAS in Detroit zal de verkoop van de Insight starten, ook in Europa. Honda mikt op een wereldwijde verkoop van 200.000 exemplaren per jaar. De Japanners beloofden eerder dat de Insight een betaalbare auto zal worden. Wanneer de prijzen bij het naderen van de NAIAS bekend worden gemaakt weten daarover meer. |
