 Honda meldt in een officieel persbericht dat de NSX –zoals we eerder al meldden- een V10 aan boord zou krijgen. De testauto heeft flink wat keren de Nordschleife gerond, maar helaas. De reden van het schrappen van de supersportauto is dezelfde als die bij het stoppen met de Formule 1-activiteiten. Honda wil zich richten op de massaproductie van milieuvriendelijke auto’s en het maken van een NSX met meer dan 500 pk botst daar nogal mee. Dat is niet de enige maatregel die Honda door de moeilijke tijden moet helpen. Naast het stoppen met prestigeprojecten als de NSX en de Formule 1 opent Honda een aantal nieuwe fabrieken later dan gepland, of ze draaien niet meteen op volle kracht. Een nieuw Research&Development Center in het Japanse Sakura gaat pas later open. Het Japanse concern verwacht dat de winst over 2008 67 procent lager uitvalt dan voorspeld. Om goed uit deze moeilijke tijden te komen, richt Honda zich op korte termijn voor honderd procent op de grootschalige introductie van hybrides. De Insight is in de lente van 2009 de eerste van de nieuwe lichting, de sportieve CR-Z volgt eind 2010. Honda overweegt ook op basis van grote auto’s hybrides te maken, terwijl het merk in de eerste instantie voor diesels had gekozen. De introductie van de grotere modellen in Japan en de Verenigde Staten wordt uitgesteld, zodat Honda zich kan richten op de kleine modellen. Het concern wil zo weinig mogelijk dure materialen gebruiken, zodat de winst niet nadelig wordt beïnvloed door de stijgende prijzen van de daarvoor benodigde grondstoffen. |
