 Alle fabrikanten nemen flinke maatregelen om de recessie het hoofd te bieden, maar niemand gaat zo ver als Honda. Vooral de werknemers in Engeland zijn het slachtoffer, want Honda sluit de fabriek in Swindon nu maar liefst vier maanden. Dat meldt onder andere persbureau Reuters. De maatregel is nogal opvallend, ten eerste omdat Honda in Swindon de Europese Civic bouwt. Deze is nog maar net gefacelift, dus je zou juist verwachten dat het merk de productie op een constant niveau wil houden. Bij de Engelse fabriek werken 4.200 mensen, maar Honda verwacht dat niemand z’n baan kwijtraakt. Bovendien is Honda een van de minst getroffen fabrikanten in autoland. De vraag is dus of de directie van Honda paniekvoetbal speelt, of dat de fabrikanten die echt in de problemen zitten (dan denken we met name aan de Grote Drie in de Verenigde Staten) nog lang niet genoeg maatregelen nemen om de crisis het hoofd te bieden. Het sluiten van de fabriek in Swindon is niet de enige maatregel die de directie van Honda neemt. De nieuwe NSX is geschrapt, net als de S2000-opvolger en een hybride cabriolet. Bovendien is de bouw van nieuwe R&D-faciliteiten opgeschort. Honda zegt 100 procent in te willen zetten op hybrides. Het palet bestaat in 2010 uit de Insight, Civic Hybrid, Jazz Hybrid en CR-Z. |
