 Takanobu Ito is de nieuwe CEO van Honda. Ito, die in de loop der jaren al vele functies bij Honda vervulde, volgt de 64-jarige Takeo Fukui op.  Ito gaat de nadruk de komende jaren vooral leggen op de ontwikkeling van nieuwe technologieën. Hij wordt dan ook zowel de CEO van Honda Motor als van de R&D-afdeling. Dat is vrij uniek bij Honda, de laatste keer dat iemand deze dubbelfunctie bekleedde was in 1992. Ito was in het verleden onder meer verantwoordelijk voor de ontwikkeling van de NSX.De aankondiging lijkt een beetje vreemd, omdat Honda onlangs besloot om het ontwikkelingsbudget van 2009 terug te schroeven. Toch is het budget nog altijd hoger dan in 2008, 1,2 procent om precies te zijn. Honda heeft niet alleen last van dalende verkopen op de mondiale automarkt, de koers van de yen gooit extra roet in het eten. Door de pijlen te richten op hybrides en compacte auto’s hoopt het Japanse merk de crisis het hoofd te bieden. Takeo Fukui is blij met de benoeming van z’n opvolger: “Er breekt een moeilijke periode aan voor de auto-industrie. We moeten snel beslissingen kunnen nemen en daarom is een compacte organisatiestructuur van levensbelang”. De huidige CEO verdwijnt niet geheel van het toneel. Vanaf juni treedt hij op als adviseur van de directie. |
