 In een bloedheet Bahrein was het wederom een Brawn GP die op de bovenste trede stond. Jenson Button kwam voor de derde maal dit seizoen als winnaar uit de strijd. Van strijd was echter eigenlijk geen sprake want er was niemand die de Brit wist bij te houden. De Toyota's die op de eerste startrij stonden waren te licht van gewicht om aanspraak te maken op de titel. Voor Trulli was een derde plaats het maximaal haalbare, vlak achter Vettel die tweede werd. Lichtpuntje voor Ferrari: het geplaagde team pakte eindelijk zijn eerste puntjes dankzij een zesde plek van Räikkönen. De race kende een explosieve start. In de eerste ronde waren de inhaalmanoeuvres legio. Trulli moest zijn eerste plek al direct aan teamgenootje Timo Glock overgeven. Hamilton had een superstart en schoot door naar de derde plek. Een ronde later werd hij echter alweer binnengehengeld door Jenson Button die op hete kolen leek te zitten. De Brit haalde Hamilton op fenomenale wijze in, om vervolgens aan de horizon van Bahrein te verdwijnen. Ferrari deed geen goede zaken. Massa werd gesandwiched en verloor een deel van zijn vleugel wat hem tot een vroege stop dwong. Al na tien ronden kwam de eerste Toyota naar binnen voor een reguliere stop, kort daarna de tweede Toyota en dat bevestigde wat iedereen eigenlijk al wist. De Toyota's waren licht, te licht. Timo Glock viel terug naar een negende plek. Jarno Trulli lag achter Glock, maar door een snelle stop kwam hij als zesde weer de baan op. De vroege stop van de Toyota's bracht een nieuwe leider: Jenson Button. Met niemand voor zich trapte Jenson Button de Brawn GP flink op zijn staart. Ook in Bahrein liet Brawn GP weer zien dat het in topconditie verkeert. Button gaf zijn volgers het nakijken en ook zijn teamgenootje Rubens Barrichello had de smaak goed te pakken. Hij was snel, maar werd slachtoffer van zijn eigen strategie. Zijn drie-stopper zorgde er voor dat hij te veel achterliggers moest inhalen en hij eindigde uiteindelijk op een vijfde plaats. Tijdens de tweede sessie pitstops werd duidelijk welke rijders op een winnende strategie zaten. Button verloor met zijn stop geen moment zicht op de leiding, Lewis Hamilton kwam niet voorbij aan Jarno Trulli en Sebastian Vettel had de langste adem. Zijn late stop zette hem terug op een keurige tweede plek, voor Jarno Trulli. Vettel reed echter in de slotfase op de zwakkere compound en dit zorgde er voor dat Jarno Trulli rondje na rondje dichterbij kwam. De Duitser was Trulli echter volkomen de baas in de slotfase. Vettel eindigde daardoor op een tweede plek, gevolgd door Jarno Trulli, Lewis Hamilton en Rubens Barrichello.
